McElroy Films Working with the Boston Fire Department

Boston Fire DepartmentMcElroy films is currently working with the Boston Fire Department to shoot instructional videos. The Boston Fire Department (BFD) provides fire protection services and emergency medical services in many different situations for Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

We had a very exciting shoot last week with the BFD on Moon Island. Moon Island is located just outside of Boston in Quincy. This is where the BFD trains their firefighters.

Boston Fire DepartmentWe set up a multi cam shoot with not only our regular XDCAM’s, but with thermal imaging & helmet cameras. In the simulation the firefighters were responding to a fire in a three-decker house where the roof collapses. During this situation the roof actually collapses on a firefighter inside the house; trapping him underneath debris so that he has to call a MayDay. From there the rest of the team works on rescuing their comrade and friend while still putting out the fire.

Boston Fire Department videographyWe will be shooting some more this week at the Union Hall and Division One of the BFD. Check back in for more updates and pictures.

ABC News Uses Footage from McElroy Films for News Spot

mcelroy films the fighter1/28/2011

McElroy Films was called upon this afternoon by ABC News to help with b-roll footage for their “Person of the Week” Segment. The Micky Ward story is know throughout the Massachusetts community for years. However, it wasn’t until recently that this story gained national media attention with the release of The Fighter.

McElroy Films teamed up local media outlets in Lowell, MA and started producing a documentary called: “Golden Gloves”. Which was shelved right around the first time The Fighter went stale. We ended up putting a few segments together since we had all this fantastic footage laying around. One of the bites that survived can be found on YouTube.

Turns out ABC decided they needed additional footage for tonight’s spot and hit the internet scouring the web for more material. That’s when they stumble across our clip on YouTube. After some brief talks and about an hour of FTP-ing. ABC had what they were looking for.

Click here to see the whole spot on ABC’s site.

Below you can watch our excerpt from the Golden Gloves.

Fenway Health – Jon Vincent

November 30, 2010 by

Ben McElroy and his crew at McElroy films are an amazing group to work with.  They blend the highest standard of professionalism with an easy going and fun approach to making short videos.  In public health, sometimes our messages can become dry.

Working with Ben and Co. enabled us to spice up the topics at hand, without being irreverent or insincere in our presentation.  When shooting a video designed to promote a health maintenance website, a critical social issue became a major national news story: gay bullying and suicides among LGBT youth.  With the help of Ben, we were able to piggyback a second video shoot onto our scheduled one.  The subsequent video: “Fenway Health Presents: It Will Get Better” ended up being much more significant for us than the original short.  Ben and his colleagues were amazingly accommodating and flexible.  They also infused an easy flowing flair into both of the projects we made together.  McElroy Films meets the client where they are at—for us, we had a fairly high amount of creative input into one project.  The crew took what we wanted to do and made it a reality.  Conversely, when faced with making up something from scratch in a single day, Ben and co. took the reigns and directed us towards a fantastic final product.  Ben also made the secondary things—titles, music, and especially editing look easy.

McElroy Films are truly creative and truly facilitative.  I strongly endorse them and intend to work with them again soon.

Jon Vincent, Program Director for Prevention, Education and Screening, Fenway Health
